I've never been a fan of Poe. I vaguely remember it as required reading in English Lit., but I don't think I read anything but the minimal requirement. I think, after reading your article, I shall read more of his work- you piqued my interest. Thanks--Always--EllaThanks for reading and commenting
His 'allergy' to alcohol is factual but exagerated(sp.)Thanks for reminding me of spell check
I am one of the people who would answer yes if asked if I was familiar with the works of Poe. But I learned so much about all the aspects of his life, both positive and negative, from this article. Now I intend to do some research of my own. Thanks for reading and commenting
Very informative article. I was not aware of his time spent as a literary critic. It's the only way he ever made even a poor man's living. He never got much for his writing. Imagine a Longfellow fan reading The Fall of the House of Usher, or The Bells. It did not sell.
Folks tend to bitch about contemporaries. It is only the later generations, who understand the true value of a genius. Thanks for reading
Does this mean we will have to die to get published? Yikes.....He was published- by himself a lot. He just couldn't sell anything
I don't remember much of what I had to read in school, but I do remember "The Bells" and all that tintinnabulating! Good article!Thnaks for reading and commenting
