Naked Terrorist Nabbed In Time

Doctor Scott Slavin, 54, simply has to be crazy. There can be no other explanation. Not only did he possess firearms and household chemicals, but he slept naked-- only a couple of blocks from a high school. The SWAT team and bomb squad quietly took over the neighborhood and surrounded his house the other night. At 4:00 in the morning they drove an armored police vehicle up onto his lawn and, through loud speakers, order Slavin to immediately pick up his telephone or exit his house. He opted for the latter, but didn’t take time to get dressed. He professed innocence and ignorance of “what the heck was going on.” However, he seemed to be very agitated, had a panicked expression and was “in the nude condition” when he surrendered. He was taken into custody and involuntarily committed for mental health evaluation.
Several nearby homes were evacuated. Snipers were set up on roof tops. SWAT team members took up positions and hid in shadows. “It was just like in the movies,” one enthusiastic bystander commented. The Falls Township police were assisted by ATF agents and officers from Bensalem and Bristol Townships who needed the practice, too. Neighbor John Bartkowski watched the whole thing unfold. At about 4:00am the armored car drove up on the lawn and called for Slavin’s surrender. “It sounded like a car alarm, and then a robotic voice said ‘Dr. Scott, this is the police. We’re here to help you. Pick up your phone.'”
“We had to get this done,” said Falls Police Lt. Hank Ward. School was scheduled to start in a couple of hours just a few blocks away. No one was hurt and classes did begin on time.
Police found about a dozen "legally owned" firearms inside Slavin’s home. Most of them were kept in a safe that Slavin voluntarily opened after he got some pants on. They did find some household chemicals that, if mixed in the proper proportions, could cause an explosion. Some were stored right next to each other. It was lawful to have the chemicals in his laundry cabinet, “But, it didn’t make sense that he had them together,” Ward said.
Bartkowski, who has lived across the street from Slavin for many years, said “He’s not evil. I could get a lot worse neighbors. He maintained his home. He didn’t bother you.” Bartkowski had to admit that Slavin usually kept to himself and rarely said hello, though. It is a personality quirk that will undoubtedly be carefully assessed during his state imposed psychological evaluation.
Lt. Ward re-assured the public that, since Slavin has now been committed for ‘mental health reasons,’ he can no longer legally possess firearms. All of his guns and ammo were confiscated and will be destroyed. Slavin is now on the Home Security list and his purchase of cleaning products will be carefully watched. The raid provided valuable training for the ‘troops’ and they will be better prepared for the next anti-terrorist mustering.

Yes, Yes, I'm sure it's all true; I've even heard of people living directly across the street from elementary schools with weapons in their home! To hell with American values and the principles of the Constitution, LET THE PARANOIA BEGIN....Hey, Doc, chill.
Excellent writing. Well chosen topic. Inherently interesting and full of the outlandish nature of a news story. If this isn't a per se great subject for an article, I don't know what is. Thanks for your art and your effort.
