New Jersey Mayor Accused of Renting a "Boy"

Christopher Myers, mayor of Medford New Jersey, has decided to just keep his head down, and ride out the storm after a series of incriminating emails were sent to the Burlington County Times newspaper this month. A self-proclaimed male escort accused Myers of paying him $500 to have homosexual sex with him at a Southern California hotel last October. Myers denies the accusation, suggesting that it's most likely a 'smear job' by right-wing Republicans who are angry over his opposition to the “don’t ask, don’t tell policy” of the U.S. military.
It’s impossible to get further information because the accuser’s website—mayormyers.webs.com--is now inaccessible. A note on the site says, “We’re sorry, this site is unavailable, because it has used up its monthly bandwidth. Please try back another time.” Maybe more can be gleaned after November 1st. Calls to the telephone number on one of the emails received by the newspaper have not been answered.
The “story” has been reported not just locally, but nationally and even internationally. Myers said that he has been advised by his attorney to ignore the claim and to not investigate it, claiming that it is very difficult to track down an anonymously posted site like the accuser's.
Commentator Phil Gianficaro has been following the 'case.' He is confused by the mayor’s failure to react to the situation, saying, “I believe most folks…wouldn’t stand idly by waiting for the stench to go away….we’d do all we could to find the person behind the smear job. We would turn over every rock…to find the name and face behind the accusation.” He speculates that the Myers may be “playing possum” trying to draw out the accuser. He believes it is the only explanation for why the mayor has not acted like a 'regular person' would.
Mayor Myers said that he has not looked at the accuser’s website. He also said that he has no intention of having the photographs or the photographer investigated. He suggests that the accuser somehow got a picture of his face, found someone of similar body build, and used “Photoshop” to put his face onto the body sleeping at the motel. Myers said that he couldn’t say whether or not he was at the Fairmont hotel in Newport Beach, California. After all it was over a year ago. Regardless, he insists, he certainly would never 'hook up' with anyone through rentboy.com, as the accusations claim. He is convinced that dirty politics is behind the whole thing.
Myers’ reputation as a loyal husband and a respected civil servant is at risk, but he has chosen to not respond to the situation, for now. There is an intense local interest in the situation but Medford residents have been unable to reach their mayor recently. He is reportedly outside the country 'on business.' All efforts to reach him by telephone have been unsuccessful. Township Manager Christopher Schultz dismisses all rumors that the town’s top elected official has resigned. “If the mayor chooses to resign,” Schultz said. “He would be required to submit a written notice….” But, they haven’t heard from him. However, Myers has requested to have a link to his municipal email account removed from the township’s website.
After his business trip is over and he returns to New Jersey, Medford Mayor Christopher Myers may find it advantageous to change his defense strategy. His constituents are becoming a little perturbed at his lack of interest and silence on the topic. It would be a shame if dirty politics and libelous accusations cost an reputable elected official his position of power.

Top-level comments on this article: (1 total)With photoshop possibilities anything is possible, and if the website is down, there is the chance that the FBI took it down depending, if it was an underage male involved. The Mayor's lawyer may have had him put a sock in it, and not discuss it; numerous possibilities.
In this age of the "politics of personal destruction' nothing surprises me, but I take it all with a grain of salt. Who knows the truth anymore.
I had never heard of this before, but then I live in different part of the country. We have the same kind of attacks on politicials and officials here; some true, some not.
Article is written well, and glad you didn't absolutely claim it's true, but kept a 'balanced attitude'. Doesn't make a person want to go into politics does it???How can he not remember if he was at the hotel? Most people here believe he hired the 'escort" - not a young boy.
